The Toronto Maple Leafs spoke to the media as the team begins training camp on Wednesday and general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to address.
One important update came on the health of defenseman Jake Muzzin, who hasn’t played for the Maple Leafs since Oct. 17 when he suffered a severe neck injury in a collision with Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller. It was later confirmed in February that he wouldn’t play for the rest of the season, or even in the playoffs.
On Wednesday, Treliving confirmed that Muzzin would miss the entire 2022-23 season as well, per Mike Stephens.
When Muzzin was injured early into the 2022-23 season, it was the second time his career that he damaged his neck. On top of two concussions suffered last season, the blue liner and his family have to consider the long-term consequences, which probably explains the decision to stay out of action for the upcoming campaign.
While the fanbase in Toronto would love to have him on the roster again, we all know that hockey comes second when health, family and long-term consequences are involved.
Here at Hockey Feed wish Muzzin all the best in his ongoing recovery.
