Earlier today before the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Senators in Ottawa, it was confirmed that Mathieu Joseph will be a healthy scratch. This was shocking to find out since Brothers Pierre-Olivier (Penguins) and Mathieu Joseph (Senators) invited more than 50 friends and family members that travelled to see then face another. The game was supposed to mark a first NHL meeting between Joseph and his brother Pierre-Olivier.
Senators insider Ian Mendes for The Athletic started investigating on why Jospeh was being scratched, especially with so many loved ones coming to see him, however, chatter online has emerged that it could all be Mathieu’s fault.
It has been rumoured that Joseph broke a team policy. Some are saying he might have missed the team’s planned breakfast ahead of today’s game and has therefore been punished.
It wouldn’t be the first time a player is getting sent to the press box for breaking a policy, especially on game day.
Mathieu Joseph was activated back from injured reserve earlier this week and is apparently healthy and ready to play. He has been out since Dec. 8, has recorded nine points, 28 shots on goal and 39 hits in 25 games this season.
It would have been great to see him injected into the Senators’ lineup, especially with loved ones in town to see the brothers’ first professional duel, but it seems like it is his own fault after all…
