David Poile steps down as GM of the Nashville Predators!
The long time Predators GM is done.
I have some truly stunning news to bring you.
In a surprising announcement, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that long time Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations and General Manager David Poile is officially retiring from his position. Additionally Friedman reports that Poile will remain on as a consultant in some capacity, although the details are vague on that front.
The Predators have struggled to truly be a relevant playoff contender since the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs when they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final four games to two. Much of the blame for that had fallen on Poile's shoulders in recent years and you have to wonder if that may not have played a significant role in his decision to retire from the position.
The move is especially shocking as it comes only days before the NHL's trade deadline on March 3rd, leaving the Predators in a very tough spot as they approach that deadline.
