David Pastrnak in no hurry to re-sign with the Bruins.

This could be bad news for Boston.

This may be a sign for concern as far as the Boston Bruins are concerned.

One of the biggest topics of interest for Bruins fans coming into the 2022 - 2023 National Hockey League regular season will be on the future of veteran winger David Pastrnak. Pastrnak is entering the final year of the 6 year deal valued at $40 million he signed with the Bruins in the summer of 2017, and by the sounds of things he may not be in any hurry to sign a new extension.

Pastrnak's current deal has been an absolute steal for the Bruins. In spite of carrying a cap hit of just $6.66 million last season, Pastrnak put up a whopping 40 goals for the Bruins while also tallying an additional 37 assists for 77 points in just 72 games played. It seems likely that he is due for a major raise, but it sounds like Pastrnak may want to evaluate things before signing long-term in Boston.

Recently Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty revealed that Pastrnak is likely to wait and evaluate the direction of the team this season before putting pen to paper, if he does so at all.

"The direction I get from talking to people close to Pastrnak and talking to sources around the negotiations is, I think David Pastrnak wants to wait into the season to see the direction that this Bruins team is going and to get a sense of the direction that things are going," said Haggerty.

Haggerty points to the fact that the Bruins have several core members of their roster on the tail end of their careers, like forward Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, and believes that Pastrnak may have some concerns in that regard. The insider also revealed his belief that the Bruins are likely to push for a resolution during training camp, in spite of the fact that nothing seems to have happened as of yet.

"Very quiet, I think they are waiting for camp to start," said Haggerty. "Waiting for Pastrnak to be here everyday, to be back from Europe."

"I think there's gonna be discussions in training camp, certainly the Bruins would like to get something done in training camp."

The question now of course is what happens if the Bruins are trending in the wrong direction for Pastrnak this season? The Bruins will likely want to avoid a situation similar to the one the Calgary Flames had with Johnny Gaudreau this summer at all costs.
