Everyone around the league now that sooner rather than later, fans will find out when comes next for Patrick Kane. The Chicago Blackhawks’ star forward is expected to speak with his agent Pat Brisson and team management to determine if he would like to be traded ahead of the March 3rd deadline for another shot at the Stanley Cup.
While several teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes have all been linked to Kane, Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet also put the Boston Bruins on his list of five potential trade destinations for Kane. And there is a sense that Boston could end on top and win the Kane sweepstakes.
It seems like it’s now or never for the Bruins. Boston is in win-now mode with aging stars like captain Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Krejci.
“Jake DeBrusk’s bounce-back season has been a huge boon for the Bruins and you could make a case the B’s are in less need of secondary scoring than they’ve been in a while. That said, this team has the highest of goals and has to know there are a limited amount of cracks they’re going to get at it with Patrice Bergeron (37 years old), David Krejci (36) and Brad Marchand (34) all firmly in the third act of their careers.”
Dixon also reminds fans of the Blackhawks beating the Bruins in the 2013 final and how Kane joining Boston could win the championship.
It is clear however that the Bruins would need the Blackhawks to retain part of the remainder of Kane’s $10.5 million cap hit.
And of course, the superstar would have the final say thanks to his full no-movement clause. However, the Bruins look so good this season, it’d be hard for Kane to say no.
