Following the first wave of the National Hockey League’s free agency period, there remain a number of players that are still up for grabs and could provide a notable benefit for whichever team they ultimately join.

One such name that is still available on the open market is forward Daniel Sprong, who has become somewhat of a journeyman in recent years.

Having played for five different teams since the 2019-20 campaign, Sprong spent last season as a member of the Detroit Red Wings and scored 18 goals with 25 assists in 76 games; the Red Wings just barely missed out on ending their playoff drought.

While he can provide a scoring touch, one drawback is that he’s never been known for defensive play. However, several teams could choose to overlook his defensive deficiencies considering what he can do on the offensive side of the puck.

According to one recent report, one team said to be interested in Sprong is the Vancouver Canucks. Per according to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team:

Sprong’s cap hit last season was a reasonable $2 million; the Canucks current have less than $500K in cap space remaining, meaning a coinciding move would have to take place to accommodate a potential Sprong contract.
