One of the top free agents still remaining has agreed to a very team-friendly type of deal.

According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, free agent forward Daniel Sprong has signed a one year deal with the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks are getting Sprong at a great value as well, with the insider reporting that Sprong's average annual value and cap hit will be just $975,000 for this upcoming season.

Sprong was widely considered to be one of the top free agents still available this summer, and was projected to earn considerably more than what he has signed for by most experts. Sprong is coming off a solid season with the Detroit Red Wings in which he recorded 18 goals and added 25 assists for a total of 43 points over 76 regular season games.

Sprong was also solid the previous year as a member of the expansion Seattle Kraken, scoring 21 goals and adding 25 assists for a total of 46 points in just 66 games that year.

Many were surprised that it took Sprong this long to sign on with an NHL team given his relative value when compared to some of the other remaining free agent forwards available this summer, and the fact that Sprong agreed to such a modest offer may point to the fact that there was a much smaller market for his services than had been anticipated.
