Cutter Gauthier responds to brutal chants from fans in Philly.
Cutter Gauthier faces the media after a humiliating loss at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday.
It was a very tough night for Anaheim Ducks rookie forward Cutter Gauthier on Saturday night, but the young man appears to be determined not to let the humiliating loss at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia linger.
Gauthier returned to Philadelphia on Saturday night after forcing his way out of the city via a trade after the Philadelphia Flyers drafted him 5th overall at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and unsurprisingly the usually hostile crowd in Philly was more than ready to welcome him back as only they can. Gauthier was on the receiving end of some brutal chants throughout the night, including during warmups, during the game itself, and especially as the Flyers made it clear that this one would be a blowout, eventually winning by a score of 6-0.
Even some of the Flyers players seemed to be getting in on the fun, clearly doing their best to get under Gauthier's skin throughout the game.
After the humiliating loss Gauthier was asked if he felt the hostile crowd had negatively impacted his team, but he refused to acknowledge that the energy in the building played any role.
"No," said Gauthier. "I said this before, we had a tough game last game against St. Louis and I think some of those habits snuck in tonight."
As I mentioned, Gauthier's comments made it clear that he is determined to put this one in the back of his mind as quickly as possible.
"Yeah, definitely," said Gauthier about quickly forgetting Saturday night's game. "It's a long season. We play 82 games, we're not going to let one game affect us throughout the whole year and we're right back at it tomorrow (in Carolina).
We've got a clean slate (and) play a good team tomorrow. We've got to come out ready to go."
I don't think the fans in Philly will be forgetting anytime soon, and I suspect that Gauthier will be on the receiving end of a similar welcome to the Wells Fargo Center in the future as well.
