The Detroit Red Wings have been without the services of towering Swedish rookie forward Elmer Soderblom for nearly a month now, as the lower body injury that he sustained last month after blocking a shot has kept him out of action for longer than anticipated. However, there is a positive update to be shared on his condition.

According to Max Bultman of The Athletic, Detroit could soon get Soderblom back into the lineup in short order. However, he would likely require a short conditioning stint with the American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins before once again suiting up for the Red Wings

In 13 games played this season, Soderblom has scored twice, which included tallying the 1st NHL goal of his career and the 1st goal of the 2022-23 season for Detroit in October against the visiting Montreal Canadiens.

In the meantime, fellow Swedish rookie Jonatan Berggren has made a strong case to stay in the lineup, having scored three goals with five assists in his first 12 career NHL games. As of right now, that's a 20 goal, 32 assist pace over the span of a full 82 game season, which would garner him consideration for the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie.
