Crucial update on messy Matt Murray situation in Toronto!
Is that explanation good enough?

The Toronto Maple Leafs got a lot of heat earlier this summer when the team announced that veteran goalie Matt Murray had been placed on Injured Reserve/Long Term Injury prior to the start of the season, out indefinitely.
On Wednesday morning, when general manager Brad Treliving spoke to the media as the team begins training camp, he revealed what happened to his goalie to clarify any doubt that the Maple Leafs might have pulled a fishy move to be cap-compliant.
Treliving revealed that Murray requires significant surgery, which will take place in the next week. The GM expects “significant rehab”, but is hopeful Murray could return within months.
“We’re looking forward to getting him better and on the path to recovery.”
When asked about how the injury took place and consequently led to the upcoming surgery, Treliving explained that Murray aggravated “some stuff” over the summer. What he’ll be getting surgery for stems from stuff he’s been dealing with for a while.
“It’s a matter of months,” Treliving said about recovery time and potential return.
Treliving also made more significant updates on the injury front, revealing that defenseman Jake Muzzin would miss the entire 2022-23 season.
