Crosby asked Ovechkin who would be their linemate if they played together and his answer might surprise you
Not Malkin, not Backstrom, not Kunitz, not Wilson... Ovi goes off the board!

Believe it or not NHL superstars Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin are separated by just a single point in total career points after 17 seasons playing in the NHL. Crosby has the edge with 1424 points in 1121 games, while Ovechkin has 1423 points in 1289 games. Crazy to think that the two superstars who both entered the league together back in 2005 have had such similar success in their careers despite playing for very different teams and playing very different styles from each other.
For better or worse, Crosby and Ovechkin will always be linked together as they have since their rookie seasons. As fans we've been treated to some all-time classic match ups between the pair and we've been witness to both players raising the Stanley Cup. Pretty wild stuff when you stop to think about it. What I'm not sure we'll ever see though is Crosby and Ovechkin playing together alongside each other as linemates. I'm sure it's happened at an All-Star Game or two, but I mean in actual competition. How sweet would it be to see these two bitter rivals line up alongside each other?
Well, evidently Crosby has given it some thought because he posed a question to Ovechkin himself, asking, "what if we were linemates, who are you taking as a third player?"
Ovi's answer may surprise you: Donald Brashear.
Check it out:
That's right...
Not Evgeni Malkin, not Nicklas Backstrom... Donald freaking Brashear.
And look, I LOVE Donald Brashear but if I'm picking a linemate to play with Sid and Ovi, I'm not sure Brashear is even in my top 100 of choices. Hell, if you're looking for an enforcer type I think that Tom Wilson would even be a better choice. In all honesty though, I feel like Malkin might be the best choice. He obviously has familiarity playing with Crosby and he also has some history playing with Ovechkin on many iterations of Team Russia. I'd be curious to see Backstrom in that role, but I think he'd have a harder time shifting to the wing because obviously Sid would play the middle.
