The Toronto Maple Leafs lost goaltender Ilya Samsonov on Saturday night to an undisclosed injury, though the team disclosed that they didn't expect him to miss any time.
Fans began to grow concerned, however, when Samsonov didn't take the ice for practice today. But according to head coach Sheldon Keefe, Samsonov is considered day to day.
After addressing the status of Mitch Marner, whom he also described as day to day, Keefe described Samsonov's designation as the same.
"I would say the same," Keefe said. "He has been skating for the last couple of days, but he wasn’t going to play tonight regardless. Today is a chance for him to work his way back.
At this point, based on how things went today, we are expecting him in practice tomorrow. We’ll take it from there."
Joseph Woll will be between the pipes tonight as the Leafs take on the New Jersey Devils, who have seen their playoff hopes fade down the stretch.
Samsonov has racked up a record of 19-6-7 this season, his second with the Leafs, with a 3.12 goals against average and .889 save percentage.
