On Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks placed veteran Corey Perry on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. While the team and general manager Kyle Davidson held a press conference later that same day, very little was cleared up when it comes to what actually happened. Davidson did specify that the incident in question was not a criminal one, and made sure to put an end to all of the Connor Bedard’s mother rumours, stating that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary.

In case you're late to the party, earlier this week on social media sites like Reddit and Twitter there was a hot rumor making the rounds that Perry actually hooked up with Melanie Bedard, mother of the Blackhawks superstar rookie.

However, the lack of details makes it hard to imagine what could come next for Perry. Chris Johnston reported some options for the veteran forward on the latest edition of Insider Trading on TSN.

“There’s a chance Perry could have a grievance over this decision. That is something he has 60 days to decide on and at this point it’s too soon to know which way he’ll go.

“But it’s very clear this is a serious situation. We saw the way Kyle Davidson addressed reporters and the strain it put on him.

“He couldn’t reveal much but he did make it clear that it didn’t involve a player or his family. It was a workplace matter and not something that violated the law. Clearly, this is something the Blackhawks felt violated the terms of Perry’s standard player’s contract and the team’s internal policies.”

Perry’s contract, a one-year, $4-million deal he signed after the Blackhawks acquired his rights from the Tampa Bay Lightning in an offseason trade, will be terminated  "engaging in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments" as soon as he is unclaimed off waivers later today.

We will see if his next move is to file a grievance with the NHLPA. If not, what's next?

But with this crazy unexpected situation taking place, you never know if Perry could be claimed off the waiver wire or even signed to another deal with a different NHL team later this season…
