Connor McDavid leaves game as Oilers are already without Leon Draisaitl

When bad turns to worse in Edmonton. More details below:

Chris Gosselin

On Thursday night as the Edmonton Oilers were getting to take on the Winnipeg Jets, it was confirmed that star forward Leon Draisaitl would miss the contest due to an undisclosed injury. Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch had said earlier Thursday that the star forward was doubtful as Edmonton pushes for top spot in the Pacific Division, and unfortunately the bad news was confirmed right before puck drop.

Draisaitl sustained an undisclosed injury in Edmonton's 7-1 win over Utah on Tuesday and is considered "game-to-game."

But then it got worse.

In a tight battle against the Jets, captain Connor McDavid appeared in discomfort during the second period after a questionable play from Jets defenseman, and former Team Canada teammate, Josh Morrissey.

The blue liner delivered a dirty slash on McDavid, who went over to the Oilers in visible pain and was not back on the team’s bench at the start of the third period.

It was then announced by the Oilers that McDavid would not return to the contest due to a lower-body injury. Almost immediately after the announcement, the Jets took a 3-2 lead in the game.

The Oilers are without Draisaitl and McDavid.. and I can’t see anything good coming out of that.

Edmonton is likely to provide an update on McDavid after the contest or tomorrow ahead of the weekend’s schedule…
