Connor McDavid inadvertently exposes private detail of relationship with wife Lauren in live interview
The best player in the world cannot be an All-Star all the time…
Last Thursday, the Edmonton Oilers celebrated their captain Connor McDavid reaching 1,000 career NHL points at Rogers Place and invited his wife Lauren Kyle and their dog Lenny to join him on the ice. Lenny stole the show when he was given a golden bone as teammates Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Darnell Nurse, gifted McDavid a custom-engraved Rolex watch and a golden stick and Tiffany crystal.
After the first period, Sportsnet’s Gene Principe spoke with McDavid about the ceremony and asked the Oilers’ captain what it meant for him to have Lenny on the ice for the special moment.
McDavid offered a sincere and touching answer, saying:
“No kids, so he’s the closest thing I’ve got. He’s a great little dog and I love him. It was great having him out there.”
McDavid might have exposed how the couple is hoping to have kids soon, but it may be too private to discuss fully at this time. The Oilers are focused on getting back to the Stanley Cup final with a different result this time around, and kids may be on the back burner for now.
When asked about Lenny, Lauren Kyle had this to say:
“I think the (after the) worst games, when you come home and your dog’s just there for nothing but support, and that means the most to him (Connor), and he’s (Lenny) just been there throughout the years to support him. So it means so much for us that he was able to be a part of this moment. So we’re really happy,” Lauren said.
The couple married this past July after McDavid’s first Stanley Cup final appearance. He may be focused on his career at this time and for now, he can always count on Lenny for his love and support.
