Connor McDavid faces reporters and breaks silence on his 3-game suspension
The Oilers’ captain finally comments on the three-game ban he received earlier this week.
Earlier this week, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid received a three-game suspension for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland in the head. The NHL explained that the cross-check to Garland’s head had “sufficient force to merit supplemental discipline” and McDavid will not launched an appeal of the Department of Player Safety’s decision.
McDavid cannot play for the Oilers until next week when they host the Seattle Kraken, but he can practice with his teammates. On Wednesday after the skate, he also chose to face reporters and answer questions about the suspension.
“It was a little harsh but I understand their decision and [we] gotta move on.”
He added: "I'd rather be on the ice than sitting at home resting. It's not like I can get a week away in Cabo."
McDavid’s comments come a day after the Oilers release a statement on the suspension of their superstar captain.
“The Oilers organization is disappointed and we share in our fans’ frustration over the three-game suspension of our captain Connor McDavid,” the team said in a statement released Tuesday. “We support him through this process and the organization and our fans look forward to having him back in the lineup vs. Seattle next week.”
In the meantime, McDavid’s statement makes it sound like he is not looking to talk about the ban anymore and only focus on his return and the Oilers’ next games.
The Canucks and Oilers will have their rematch, albeit without McDavid, on Thursday when they face off in Edmonton.
