Connor McDavid caught skating at Maple Leafs facility and social media goes nuts!

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid had to know he would start trending on social media when he went to practice at the Toronto Maple Leafs facility earlier this week. On Wednesday, on the opening of free agency, McDavid was caught skating and practicing at the Leafs’ official practice rink, the Ford Performance Centre.

More images also showed newly retired forward Jason Spezza having chat with McDavid. Spezza has recently taken on an advisory role within the Maple Leafs’ front office. And you have to know it only got the fans on social media going!

However, McDavid was not the only member of the Oilers in Toronto to use the Maple Leafs’ practice facility. He brought along defenseman and Hamilton native Darnell Nurse with him for the skate.

While it is clear that McDavid and Nurse simply skating around doesn’t mean a whole lot, Maple Leafs fans couldn’t help themselves with led to the Oilers’ captain trending on social media. While there is no way McDavid is coming to Toronto, he who is under contract to the Oilers for four more seasons with a full no-move clause, Maple Leafs’ fans simply couldn’t stop themselves from dreaming about McDavid and Toronto star forward Auston Matthews teaming up and dreaming ahead of the day when McDavid becomes a free agent:
