Connor Hellebuyck called out for choking in the playoffs.

A candidate for the NHL's MVP this season may be choking away the season for his team.

In a shocking turn of events, the man that many consider to have been the most valuable player in the National Hockey League this season may be ruining any chance his team has of doing damage in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Winnipeg Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was nothing short of outstanding during the regular season boasting a 2.00 goals against average and a .925 save percentage over an extremely impressive 63 game season. Hellebuyck led the charge for the Jets' Presidents' Trophy winning season but things have taken a dramatic turn in the playoffs.

Hellebuyck through 4 games as been pulled twice and boasts an abysmal 4.24 goals against average and .817 save percentage, once again fueling the narrative that he is not the same player when it comes playoff time.

Hellebuyck was even beaten on 3 consecutive shots at one point Game 4.

On Monday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman expressed concerns over Hellebuyck's body language in the Jets most recent loss. Those goals were scored by St. Louis Blues forwards Brayden Schenn and Robert Thomas.

"What concerns me for Hellebuyck is the third goal, the Schenn goal, and the fifth goal, the Thomas goal," said Friedman. "I looked at those goals on Sunday and they really concerned me, they really did."

If you haven't seen them, here is the goal from Schenn:

And the goal from Thomas:

What Friedman didn't like here is how Hellebuyck looked in terms of his body language, especially compared to the regular season.

"He's a battler and those were weird goals where he didn't battle like I expect to see Hellebuyck battle," admitted Friedman.

If Hellebuyck doesn't turn things around in this series and in these playoffs there's a real chance that his reputation for vanishing during the most important games of the season will cement itself.
