Connor Bedard’s goal celebration has people talking

Chicago Blackhawks first overall pick Connor Bedard’s first “unofficial” goal happened last night in a preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings, and won’t be one that sticks any career highlight reels.

Bedard scored an empty-net power play goal with 1:09 left in the third period and his celebration got fans talking on social media. The kid appeared almost upset that he had pushed the puck in an empty cage to secure the Blackhawks’ 4-2 win over the Red Wings.

“He’s kind of a humble guy,” coach Luke Richardson explained after the exhibition game. “He doesn’t even want to celebrate that.”

Bedard ended up with five of Chicago’s 34 shots in the game, but was also sent to the penalty box, his first penalty, for tripping in the third period.

Despite Bedard being displeased with his empty-netter goal, the crowd was loving the action from the Blackhawks, chanting We Want the Cup before the official kickoff to the 2023-24 season.

Sounds promising.
