Connor Bedard responds to NHL fine in second career game
He was fined last night in his league debut.

Last night in his NHL debut, Chicago Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard was fined $2,500 by the league for breaking a rule. Before puck drop, the first overall pick took the ice prior to his debut and the famous rookie lap, but went without his helmet, choosing to let his flow fly into the wind in Pittsburgh.
On Wednesday night, Bedard appeared to send a response to the league when he hit the ice in Boston for warmups with his helmet. He basically he’s saying I get that there is a rule, but I wanted to at least experience the old-time look once in my career. So did his teammate, rookie Kevin Korchinski, who was bucket-less last night, but wore the helmet in Boston.
Rule 9.6. states that it’s “mandatory for all players who entered the NHL beginning with the 2019-2020 season or later to wear their helmet during pre-game warm-up.”
I feel like it’s right of passage for players entering the NHL to enjoy their first warmup without their helmets, and Bedard wanted to experience it as well.
I don’t expect to see him pull the move again as he made it clear on Wednesday night against the Bruins that he won’t be fine for breaking that rule again.
