Connor Bedard might have convinced top franchise to tank for him!
What is going on?

What the heck is going on with the Pittsburgh Penguins? They have dropped four consecutive games and hold a 3-5-1 record since the trade deadline. They have slipped out of the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot, with the Florida Panthers overtaking them by a single point in the standings. The playoff race is tight in the East, it feels like the Penguins have given up on the chance of another run at the postseason with the core players of aging stars Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.
Unless, it’s all part of the plan…?
I am not acting crazy : there is actually a tweet trending at the moment in which blogger Andrew Steele wonders if the Penguins could enter the Connor Bedard sweepstakes.
He adds: “Just imagine for a second if the Pens land Bedard. Maybe this was Sidney Crosby’s master plan after all.”
As of this week, the Columbus Blue Jackets have the best chance of securing the first-overall pick, but the Penguins’ performance has fans wondering.
We get how Bedard will make ANY team better as soon as he is selected first overall in this year’s draft in Nashville. The kid is insanely talented on the ice as he’s shown during his record-setting performance at this year’s World Juniors, and also throughout the WHL season, leading the league with 142 points in just 55 games with the Regina Pats. Bedard was the first player to earn exceptional status in the WHL after scoring 43 goals and 84 points in 36 games for West Van Academy Prep’s U18 team, leading the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) in scoring and earning MVP honours as a 14 year old.
Crosby recently commented on Bedard, saying that the projected first overall pick had “no weaknesses” in his game.
But, if you know Crosby by now, the superstar hates to lose and will probably do anything before the end of the season to make sure the Penguins get back in playoff position.
It starts tonight when Pittsburgh takes on the Colorado Avalanche.
As for the first overall pick, it’s out of Crosby’s hands. He can only his to make his team better and gets some points before it’s too late for the Penguins… If the Penguins were to miss the playoffs, they would be looking at a top 16 pick for the first time in nearly 20 years.
