Connor Bedard gets annoyed when asked about his mother and Corey Perry’s rumours

For his first trip to Winnipeg ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks’ game against the Jets on Saturday, rookie Connor Bedard did not get the welcome he was ancipiting by media members.

The first overall pick was unfortunately asked some questions about the scandal that involved former Chicago Blackhawks teammate Corey Perry and the rumours that spread about the rookie’s mother Melanie.

“It’s just a bunch of BS on the internet. It’s of course been an affect on myself and my family, and that’s not fair. But it’s out of our control. It’s all just fake, made-up stuff.”

Some reporters present at the media scum noticed how Bedard was becoming “annoyed as the questions persisted", per Jacob Stoller of the Hockey News. 

Bedard has every right to be annoyed with media in Winnipeg for confronting him, just days following Perry’s termination, with questions on rumours that were obviously false from the start.

When Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson announced Perry’s termination earlier this week, he also made sure to state that that no other players or their families were involved, despite speculation to the contrary. Davidson added that anyone who suggests otherwise is “wildly inaccurate” and “frankly, disgusting.”

In his own released statement, Perry also denied the ridiculous allegations in his statement. Though he did not name his young teammate, the story was trending so much on social media lately that he did not need to.

“As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumours. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families. Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behaviour was inappropriate and wrong.”

Bedard, who was named rookie of the month of November, does not deserve to deal with this, neither does his family.
I do think his response was professional and mature, and worth posting, hoping no one else dares to stir things up again with the kid.
