Connor Bedard at the heart of tough decision in Chicago!

The Blackhawks may be forced to make the following hard call:

Chris Gosselin

Chicago Blackhawks young star forward Connor Bedard has been a Godsend for the team looking for a quick retooling and to become once again a Stanley Cup contender. Bedard has picked up his play after Hawks head coach Luke Richardson was fired at the beginning of December, now up to nine goals and 30 points in 35 games, however, as the club’s top centerman, he must be a better two-way player than he is at the moment.

It has been pointed out that Bedard holds the lowest faceoff win percentage in the NHL among regular centremen, at 34.1%, and that cannot be what the Blackhawks expected from him.

Looking at those numbers, the Blackhawks could deem that Bedard is better suited as a winger on the roster, allowing him to shine with less defensive responsibility.

While the change sounds good and could be very beneficial for both Bedard and the Blackhawks, this is an extremely tough call for Chicago. If the team decides to move Bedard to the wing, the Hawks do not have any other true options to fill a number one centre role. While general manager Kyle Davidson could address the void at the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft with young top prospects like James Hagens, Michael Misa, and Anton Frondell will be available, but this only prolongs the retooling process in Chicago.

Whether or not the Blackhawks choose to change Bedard’s position, the young forward has a lot to offer. It may only be at the wing and not down the middle…
