Former Buffalo Sabres forward Cody Eakin may have found a new home.
According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, Eakin has agreed to a professional tryout offer with the Calgary Flames. Eakin becomes the latest in a growing trend of established NHL players that have been forced to settle for a PTO in the weeks leading up to NHL training camps across the league.
Teams have been putting the squeeze on free agents due to the difficult cap situation caused in large part by the Covid-19 pandemic, and this recent surge of PTOs across the league appears to be just one more example of this.
Friedman believes that Eakin will be a good fit in Calgary as he fits their culture, which is a good sign for a player that is coming into training camp without any guarantee of earning a new contract.
Eakin's most recent campaign was with the aforementioned Buffalo Sabres. He appeared in 69 games last season, scoring 4 goals and adding 8 assists for a total of 12 points on the season.
