Coach Ruff rips Devils for pathetic performance in Game 4

In case you missed it earlier this evening, the Carolina Hurricanes absolutely ran over the New Jersey Devils to earn a tidy 3-1 series advantage.

The Hurricanes pumped the Devils for six goals, scoring an easy 6-1 victory in a game where the Devils never really looked like they had a chance. The 'Canes carried the play for much of the evening and the Devils defended like a Peewee team in their own zone. Offensive stars like Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt and Dawson Mercer were caught flying the zone far too frequently and, as a result, the Devils ended up with no flow heading up ice.

Hurricanes forward Martin Necas scored two goals on the evening, while linemate Jordan Martinook had four points.

Devils head coach Lindy Ruff, never one to hold back his thoughts, reportedly ripped into his team in a closed door meeting immediately following the game. He was a little more subdued during his post-game media availability, but was still critical of his team's poor performance.

"We had guys that just went rogue. You can call that lack of experience. Even the power play turned into one man trying to something and the next time trying to do something," the veteran bench boss said. "There was no team effort.”

Hard to disagree there. The Devils looked absolutely brutal this evening. If they want their season to continue, they'll have to dig deep.
