Claude Giroux reportedly has preference in next destination!

And it's not where most are anticipating him to land.

Michael W.

At 34 years of age, Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux isn't getting any younger, and the Flyers aren't going to be contending for the Stanley Cup any time soon. The team may decide to do right by their captain, who is climbing the ranks as one of the greatest players in franchise history, in order to give him a shot at the elusive championship that the City of Brotherly Love hasn't enjoyed since 1975.

He's been the subject of multiple trade rumors, and plenty of pundits and fans alike are expecting him to land with the high-powered offense of the Colorado Avalanche, a move that would almost certainly put them over the top in their quest for their first Stanley Cup since 2001.

But if this report from Jeff Marek of Sportsnet's "The Jeff Marek Show" are any indication, Giroux may have his eyes set on heading down south to the sunny shores of Florida.

Of course, the Panthers did just clear some cap space with the trade of Frank Vatrano to the New York Rangers.

The Panthers are a legitimate threat to win it all this year as they're currently constructed. A trade for Giroux would be one of the biggest moves in franchise history, and could only serve as the latest piece of the puzzle for a team that hasn't been able to say they're a contender since their inception, other than their Cinderella-style run to the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals.
