There is a sale that is expected to take place in Calgary and the first Flames player to go might just be right defenseman Chris Tanev, who has become especially coveted since blue liner Nikita Zadorov was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks last week.

Tanev currently leads Calgary defensemen at plus-3 and teammate Rasmus Andersson does not want to see him go. In fact he was in GM Craig Conroy’s spot, he would put an end to all of the trade rumours about Tanev.

“If there’s anyone who should be untouchable it’s Chris Tanev, in my opinion.” - Andersson said, per Sportsnet’s Eric Francis.

“He’s the best.

“You guys have no clue. You guys see 50% of it on the ice.

“Off the ice he’s just a great human being, he does everything for his teammates.”

Andersson probably knows how Tanev would be welcomed with open arms on any NHL team. Lately, the blue liner has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs and his former general manager Brad Treliving, though it sounds like the Flames are in no rush to part with Tanev and want to make sure they get a great return.

Tanev, along with Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin, are impending unrestricted free agents in Calgary. Their fate will be decided by Conroy ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, which is exactly three months from today.

If Andersson were in Conroy’s place, he would make sure the Flames hold on to Tanev and put an end to all of the trade chatter.

However, it might not end the way Andersson wants it, especially if the Flames aren’t in playoff contention closer to the trade deadline and rival teams come calling with great offers to pry Tanev out of Calgary.
