While American fans of the National Hockey League have gotten used to seeing former multiple Stanley Cup-winning defenseman Chris Chelios on national broadcasts, that will soon be coming to an end.

According to multiple reports, Chelios won't be back with ESPN next season thanks to budget reductions. He's not being terminated, but simply not having his contract renewed.

Per the report from The Athletic:

"Chelios is one of the first big names tied to looming on-air layoffs at ESPN related to Disney’s restructuring, which is expected to cut costs by $5.5 billion and eliminate roughly 7,000 jobs. According to the Front Office Sports report, the network is expected to part ways with other notable names in the coming days.

Mark Messier, P.K. Subban, Ray Ferraro, Kevin Weekes and Ryan Callahan are among other former NHLers that Chelios has appeared alongside on ESPN’s NHL broadcasts.

Chelios, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, played in 1,651 games during his 26-year career, the second-most all-time by an NHL defenseman. In addition to three Stanley Cups — one with Montreal and two with Detroit — Chelios also won the Norris Trophy three times in 1989, 1993 and 1996."
