The Boston Bruins are on a tear right now, enjoying a perfect 8-0 record in the friendly confines of TD Garden so far in the young 2022-23 NHL Season. Their perfect mark through eight games at home so far is the best start they've enjoyed in 40 years, and with a 12-2 mark, they're the League's top team.
They were further bolstered during last night's home victory over the Calgary Flames, welcoming back defenseman Charlie McAvoy to the lineup for the first time. And he was sure to give a shout out to the team training staff for doing everything possible to get him and fellow key lineup piece Brad Marchand back into action on the ice.
“TLC, baby – tender loving care,” said McAvoy of what helped him back into the lineup along with Marchand. “Confidence, mostly, in where you’re at and the hard work that you’ve done. We have a great group of trainers in there. They do an exceptional job, and they take so much pride in what they do."
“It felt really good…it’s exciting to come back, and it’s always good to feel those things. This is the first time I’ve come in like this, not having preseason to get ready, so definitely nervous all day today. Excited – the good kind of nerves. To get out there, I knew I just wanted to play simpler. A couple real quick shifts to get me in, and I felt like it went well.”
McAvoy, who scored last night in his return to action, earned high praise from 1st year Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery.
“He’s fun to watch. It’s a lot more fun coaching with him than against him,” said Montgomery. "Just his skating, his ability to create, how many pucks he kept alive in the offensive zone by pinching pucks on walls and then carrying them down and making possession plays.”
The Bruins take on the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow on the road.
