Capitals make 2 last minute changes before Game 4.
The Capitals have made 2 last minute changes to their lineup ahead of Game 4 on Sunday.
The Washington Capitals have received a little good news and a little bad news in warmups ahead of Game 4 on Sunday night.
After both injured goaltender Logan Thompson and forward Aliaksei Protas hit the ice on Sunday morning ahead of Game 4 fans were excited for the possibility of both men hitting the ice for tonight's game, but unfortunately only one of the two is healthy enough to go tonight.
Unfortunately for Protas it looks like he will remain out in spite of looking good earlier today with Capitals insider Tarik El-Bashir reporting that Protas will not be in the lineup tonight. The 24 year old forward was a huge part of what the Capitals did offensively this season with 30 goals and 36 assists for a total of 66 points in just 76 regular season games, a massive increase in production from any previous season in his NHL career.
There's no sugarcoating the fact that Portas being unable to go in warmups is a very unfortunate last minute change of plans.
As I said however there is some good news and that is that goaltender Logan Thompson will be in net tonight despite some question marks about his status after Game 3. Thompson had to be carried off the ice during that game and both Thompson and backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren left Sunday's morning skate at the same time, leaving Thompson's status tonight in doubt.
Thankfully for the Capitals it seems, based on warmups, that Thompson will be starting tonight's game which is a very positive last minute change on the part of the Capitals. While Charlie Lindgren is certainly a capable goaltender, there's no question that Thompson is the better option.
