Canucks send Elias Pettersson to Swedish league and fans everywhere freak out

This just in, the Vancouver Canucks have loaned defenseman Elias Pettersson to Västerås of the Swedish Allsvenskan League.

To reiterate that's 19 year old prospect Elias Pettersson, not 24 year old 100 point sniper Elias Pettersson. The elder Pettersson, of course, is poised for another big season as the Canucks' top forward after a phenomenal 39 goal, 102 point campaign last season.

The Canucks, of course, have two Elias Pettersson's in their system and the one heading back to Sweden is a 19 year old defenseman selected by the team in the 3rd round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. "D Petey" as he's known to Canucks fans will likely split his 2023-24 season between the Allsvenskan and the upper tier SHL. He's a solid, shut-down defensive style defenseman who will be relied upon to play big minutes in the Allsvenskan League this upcoming season.
