Canadiens draft Saku Koivu's son in the third round!
The Montreal Canadiens are bringing the Koivu name back to Montreal by picking Aatos Koivu in the third round!
The Montreal Canadiens will be continuing something of a tradition.
On Saturday, the Canadiens brought the Koivu name back to Montreal when they acquired young Aatos Koivu in the third round of the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Aatos was of course selected on his own merit, but there's no denying the strong ties the young man already has to the organization. Aatos is of course the son of former Montreal Canadiens forward Saku Koivu, a player that served as the organization's captain for many years.
Saku established a strong legacy in the city of Montreal and became one of the organization's most beloved players both on and off the ice. Those will of course be enormous shoes for his son to fill, but it will also immediately ingratiate him to fans in Montreal who have fond memories of Saku's time with the organization.
Like his father, Aatos plays the forward position Aatos played in the under 20 SM-Sarja league this past season, picking up 31 points over just 28 games, 16 of which were goals. He has also represented his home country of Finland as an under-18 player.
