Earlier today, it was confirmed that the charges in the case against Boston Bruins winger Milan Lucic were dropped after his wife declined to testify and a judge ruled that her 911 call was inadmissible as defense attorney Gary Pelletier suggested the call failed to definitively identify Lucic as the suspect. The judge sided with the defense and decided to block the evidence.

This is case that was supposed to go to trial today. The incident took place on Nov. 19, 2023 when Lucic was arrested after his wife contacted Boston Police to report a domestic incident. After his not guilty plea he was released on personal recognizance bail.

Following the incident and the first legal proceedings, Lucic entered the NHL’s Player Assistance program for substance abuse, but on Friday after the update in the case, his attorney stated that the veteran forward wants to return to the NHL and that both are confident the decision Friday will make it possible. He add that Lucic is "looking forward to getting his life back".

The Bruins however made the following statement today about Lucic’s future with the team, per Steve Conroy:

“Milan Lucic will remain on indefinite leave from the organization for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. The Boston Bruins organization supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal rehabilitation.”

Lucic was placed on the Bruins long-term injured in October. Lucic, who played in four games, getting two assists before suffering a lower-body injury, signed a one year deal with the Bruins this past offseason, thought by many to be the final destination of his long NHL career.

We might have seen him play his last NHL game, since he will not return this season, and will therefore be a free agent this summer.
