According to a report from Boston Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa, it looks like the team will go with goaltender Joonas Korpisalo tonight as they open their 2024-25 season against the Florida Panthers.
That means that the $66 million man Jeremy Swayman will be on the bench for the season opener.
Yesterday, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters that there was a possibility that Swayman would get the start in Game 1, but it appears that Korpisalo will actually get the nod.
From Shinzawa:
“I feel ready to play,” Swayman said to reporters yesterday. “I put myself in that position. I have had a great trainer over at BU during this training camp. I feel like I’ve put myself in a really good position to be ready to perform when I get my name called.”
So, is Swayman ready to go?
“It’s up to the coaching staff. I trust them completely,” he said. “If they feel like I’m ready, they know I am.”
While it appears that Korpisalo will get the start this evening, Swayman is still the team's #1 guy heading into the season. He's got a shiny new contract and he'll be expected to carry the load for this team over the duration of his 8 year deal.
