Bruins’ Brandon Carlo stuns with crazy tale of son’s birth hours before Game 1

This is one for the ages!

There was no guarantee that Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo was going to make it on time for Game 1 of the second round series against the Panthers in Florida.

However, his wife Mayson came in with the assist.

That’s because Carlo told reporters how he wasn’t sure he was going to be able to make it in time for Game 1 because his beloved wife was in labour. After the Game 7 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Carlo learned that she was headed to the hospital. Not wanting to miss out on the birth of his second child and first son, and the first game of the second round series, Carlo wanted everything to be attempted in order to see his kid and then head out to Miami.

Carlo stunned with this quote when he explained to reporters what was done in order to make it happen.

“Yeah, we sped it up as fast as we could. We were flipping her around, putting her upside down — whatever we could do to get that baby out of there.”

“Last night, we finally fell asleep for like an hour, the doctor came in and said, ‘Alright, let’s get this process going.’ He popped out about 30 minutes later. To see his face and then just have a healthy wife and a healthy baby. I couldn’t be more happy. … So thankful, so proud of my wife as well.”

Carlo’s son born around 3 a.m. the morning of Game 1. Carlo landed in around 5:30 p.m., got to the rink after the rest of his teammates, was in the lineup for the 8 p.m. game. Hours later, his wrister clanged off the crossbar and dipped behind goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for his second tally of the postseason.

“Definitely 24 hours that I won’t forget,” the blue liner said after the 5-1 victory over the Panthers.

His Bruins’ teammates knew that Mayson was the one to thank for this with goalie Jeremy Swayman adding:

“Mayson’s a big part of this team too, because of that, allowing him to come and be here and supporting him. And it’s just one of probably the most memorable moments I’ll have with this playoff run, no doubt about it.”
