Bruce Cassidy finally reveals true feelings towards Bruins’ playoff elimination

Imagine how hard it would have been for Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy to face his former Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final. That did not happen, thanks to the Florida Panthers who upset the league-leading Bruins and ousted them in seven games. And then made it all the way to the championship final against Vegas. On Tuesday, Cassidy revealed to Jesse Granger of The Athletic how he truly felt about his former team’s playoff elimination. He never worried about how he’d be viewed by people, it was more about his children, Cole and Shannon.

“I’m a big boy. I can deal with it,” he told Granger. “What I was more concerned with was we have a house in Cape Cod, and we like it there in the summer. We have a lot of roots there. I worked there for 15 years and the kids were born there. I was a little relieved after (the Bruins) lost in the playoffs for my kids not having to hear about ‘Oh, if your dad had done a better job…’ You know what I mean? Kids say things.”

Cassidy never said he was happy about the Bruins’ elimination, but he was definitely relieved.

“I think of my kids every day, because if they’re happy I’m happy, and if they’re sad I’m sad,” he said. “I was so relieved from that point, for them.”

Now Cassidy is focused on getting his name on the Cup. The Golden Knights are leading the championship series 2-0 over the Panthers as the action shifts to Florida on Thursday night.
Cassidy’s kids are watching and are enjoying the ride.

“They know the stress that goes along with it, if it doesn’t work out,” Cassidy said. “Other years have ended without (a Cup) and they’ve seen it and lived it. They’ve seen their dad be disappointed. At the end of the day, those two are their dad’s biggest fans, the biggest Knights fans, and they’re ready to do it.”

I guess it’s easier for them too with the Bruins out of the picture.
