It was quickly noticed earlier on Friday when head coach Bruce Boudreau was not on the ice with the Vancouver Canucks for the morning skate. However, it was quickly reported that Boudreau was in the building ahead of tonight’s game against the Colorado Avalanche in Vancouver.
Boudreau then met with reporters for his pregame availability and was visibly emotional when asked about his status with the Canucks with all the ongoing chatter that he is soon to be replaced by Rick Tocchet behind the bench.
“I’d be a fool to say I don’t know what’s going on.”
He got especially emotional when asked about what it meant to be head coach in the National Hockey League.
“I’ll talk later,” Boudreau said barely able to answer, before cutting the presser short.
The reeling Canucks lost 5-2 at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday, and now with the defending Stanley Cup champions in town, the pressure keeps mounting.
There is the rumor is that Tocchet was to fulfill his contractual obligations to broadcaster TNT before he can officially accept the job from the Canucks. Having said all that, Canucks insider Jason Brough is reporting that Tocchet could be hired on Monday and that he’ll be bringing his own assistants with him, presumably to replace the likes of Mike Yeo, Jason King and Trent Cull.
Boudreau has been placed in such a terrible possible for the past weeks when it’s been made clear that he’s the coach for now, but that it will come to an end.
