He's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and if he does indeed end up reaching the market, he's going to be one of the most coveted players in years.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is playing in the final year of his contract, and thanks to his scorching red hot to the season in which he registered at least one point in the first 17 games, he could be driving up his already high price tag.

And there's also the fact that Nylander previously stated ahead of this season that he has no intention of taking a team-friendly discount and wants to maximize his earnings. So what does Maple Leafs team president Brendan Shanahan have to say about Nylander's price tag increasing with his strong start?

"If you are getting concerned because you have players on your team playing really good hockey, then you have to really check yourself," he stated.

He then kept things focused on the performance on the ice rather than the upcoming contract that needs to be negotiated.

"I am not going to talk about the details of that, but the focus for all of us as a group and as individuals is to continue to improve," he continued. "These close games and tight games can be a benefit to us as we come down [the stretch]."

It's definitely a good problem for teams to have as Shanahan put it, as there are plenty of other squads who would love to be able to say that one of their players is tearing it up right now.
