Brendan Gallagher injured after violent crash into the boards.

Ouch.

The Montreal Canadiens may have to get used to the idea of playing without veteran forward Brendan Gallagher for a little while, at least if this is anywhere near as bad as it looked live.

On Saturday night, during a contest between the Dallas Stars and the aforementioned Canadiens, Gallagher took a hard spill into the boards after trying to pick up a rebound in front of Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. Unfortunately for Gallagher there was a battle for the puck in front of the net, one which would cause him to lose his balance as he careened towards the boards.

Gallagher had built up quite a bit of forward momentum and was unfortunately unable to slow himself down, causing his body to whiplash into the boards with his head seemingly taking a pretty good blow in the process. The veteran forward would leave the game following the collision with the boards and, although he did briefly return to the Canadiens bench, it appears he won't be returning tonight.

We will bring you an update on his status as soon as the Canadiens provide one.
