Tonight, the Bruins were facing the Senators in a surprisingly very physical and intense game. Both were looking to clinch their spots in the Playoffs and it was an overall excellent show.
However, a more concerning incident happened when Torey Krug was hit near the board and hurt his knee. He had to retreat with the help of teammates to the locker room and was quickly announced as missing for the remainder of the game with a lower body injury.
More details transpired later in the night and the injury seems to be a lot more serious than anticipated. Krug was seen leaving the arena in crutches and wearing a huge brace on his knee. It's obviously a terrible sight, as he is a center piece of Bostons' defense squad.
As mentioned in this video analysis, this could be a blessing in disguise for Charlie McAvoy, who just recently began his pro career in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. The 14th pick overall in 2016 is seen as a very promising rookie and it might fastrack his ascension to the NHL to fill the void left by Krug absence.
Of course, this is all speculation, but it makes sense. McAvoy is an explosive defenseman who already has 2 assists in only two games so far. He's a good leader and very responsible, but he still need a bit of ice time to develop into a mature player. The few games remaining in the season would be a crash course in pro level hockey for him, but many thinks he'd be able to do it.
Anyhow, this issue is intriguing and will unfold in the next hours. We will stay on top of it, as usual.
