On December 31st, one of the NHL’s greatest rivalries returns as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings take to the ice.
But we’re not talking about the 2016-2017 edition of either teams.
The 2017 Rogers NHL Centennial Classic TM Alumni Game is set to take place, as legends from both organizations will lace up their skates to celebrate the Maple Leafs’ centennial season. Darcy Tucker and Kris Draper took to Sportsnet’s Hockey Central At Noon to officially unveil who will take part of next month’s classic.
The Maple Leafs will welcome back legends such as Mats Sundin, Tie Domi, Darryl Sittler, Doug Gilmour, Bryan McCabe and Tucker himself whereas the Red Wings will have Sergei Fedorov, Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Paul Coffey, Chris Chelios, and Nicklas Lidstrom.
It’s certainly an exciting lineup and fans of both franchises will gladly take a walk down memory lane with the players they grew up watching and admiring.
