According to multiple Finnish language reports, Philadelphia Flyers forward Jori Lehtera has been charged for his involvement in a massive cocaine smuggling ring in his native Finland.

Lehtera, of course, was arrested this past offseason for allegedly facilitating drug trade back home in Finland. He maintains his innocence and no charges were laid… until now.

Check out this English language report from Finnish report Janne Virtanen:

It’s unclear whether Lehtera will need to be extradited to Finland for the court case or how this will affect his NHL future, but needless to say that if he does jail time he won’t be available to his team.

There’s also the possibility that the Flyers end up voiding Lehtera’s contract given this transgression. Surely that would be a positive result for Flyers fans who love to bemoan Lehtera and his onerous $4.7 million cap hit.

Suffice it to say, there’s still a LOT to play out between Lehtera and the courts. Stay tuned, Flyers fans.
