BREAKING: Buffalo Sabres have signed forward to a two-year contract.
The Buffalo Sabres have announced that they’ve signed Harvard University graduate Sean Malone to a two-year entry level contract.
A sixth round pick (159th overall) drafted by the Sabres in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Malone spent four productive seasons at Harvard before turning pro. The 6’0”, 190 lb, center starred with Harvard in the NCAA’s ECAC with 42 points in 36 games this season and which capped off a tremendous college career that saw him produce 99 points in 115 career games.
Hockeysfuture.com describes Malone as “a player who leads by example with a strong work ethic. He is a responsible, two-way player but isn't a highly-skilled offensive player. When he does produce points it is usually by going into hard areas or driving to the net.” The Sabres could definitely use more good two-way forwards in their lineup moving forward, as they rank amongst the NHL’s bottom half and goals allowed per game.
Whether Malone makes it into the lineup for his new team’s final two home games remains to be seen, but regardless Sabres fans should be excited to see what Malone can provide next season at either the NHL or AHL level.
