THE FULL RETURN IS CONFIRMED, see below:
Earlier today, insider Frank Seravalli was first to report that the Chicago Blackhawks were trading forward Brandon Hagel.
At the time, the destination and return remained unknown, but Hagel had been informed he was on the move. It was said that the return would include multiple players and draft picks coming back to Chicago.
We finally know that Hagel is heading to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Seravalli first reported that the Bolts are sending multiple first-round picks for Hagel. He later specified that Hagel was getting sent to Tampa with two fourths in return for two firsts and two active NHL players from Lightning (details TBD, players being notified).
All details came through with Hagel and two 4th round picks (2022, 2024) are traded to the Lightning in return for the 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, Taylor Raddysh and Boris Katchouk. The 2023 and 2024 first-round picks in the Tampa/Chicago trade are top-10 protected.
Clearly, the Three-Peat train looks to stop in Tampa again. GM Julien BriseBois pulling the biggest trade as of now ahead of the deadline on Monday afternoon. Hagel is indeed a good fit, especially looking back at forwards Tampa Bay brought in in 2020 at the deadline with Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow.
No one could imagine that the 23-year-old would become a trade chip, but the Hawks are in full rebuild and this monster trade will surely kick things off.
Now the time has come for Hagel to keep shining in - as he’s having a solid season with 21 goals and 37 points in 55 games. Last season he put up nine goals and 24 points in 52 games.
Per Cap Friendly, he is on the first year of a three-year contract at $1.5M, a very affordable price for his talents. He will be an arbitration eligible RFA when his contract expires at the end of 2023-24.
