On Thursday night, Team USA needed all of their best players at the top of their game in the final of the 4 nations tournament against Canada. In the end, the Canadians got away with the 3-2 overtime win, but the Americans had already lost big when Matthew Tkachuk appeared to aggravate an injury during the contest.

Tkachuk only skated 6:47 of ice time in the game. He had previously been injured in the first game between the U.S. and Canada last Saturday in Montreal and missed Monday’s game against Sweden.

After the heartbreaking loss, his younger brother and Team USA teammate Brady Tkachuk was asked about Matthew’s condition and let out some information that surely made it sounds like the injury is somewhat serious. Pet Michael Russo:

“Obviously he battles through absolutely everything, and, yeah, I don’t think it’s too good. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what ends up happening, but I know he was really disappointed.”

Matthew Tkachuk, who posted two goals and an assist in the tournament, had mentioned ahead of the final against Canada that this was the biggest game of his career.

Being unable to play it fully and now possibly being sidelined long term have to be really tough blows to Matthew…
