The Toronto Maple Leafs and goaltender Ilya Samsonov went to salary arbitration after being unable to come to an agreement on a new deal; the Russian native would eventually be awarded a one year, $3.55 million deal.

The two sides were reportedly far apart in their negotiations, but after the dust settled, it will be at least one more season of the Russian netminder with the Original 6 club.

However, GM Brad Treliving appeared to call out Samsonov for the entire arbitration ordeal, saying that while there were no hard feelings, it was "odd" that the first time he met with the goaltender was in a courthouse for the arbitration hearing.

"The reason it got to arbitration was because we couldn't get a deal done," he said. "It's a little odd the first time you meet your goaltender is at a courthouse."

It definitely isn't a regular occurrence, but at least the two sides are now on even footing after the contract was signed. What exactly does next summer hold?

In his first season in Toronto after being lured away from the Washington Capitals with a one year, $1.8 million deal, Samsonov racked up a record of 27-10-5 with a .919 save percentage and 2.33 goals against average in 42 games.

Affitipnally, posted a a 4-4 record in nine playoff games with a .898 save percentage and 3.13 goals against average, helping the Leafs win a postseason series for the first time since 2004; he would be forced from action thanks to an injury, giving way to third stringer Joseph Woll.

What kind of season will Samsonov have the second year in Toronto?
