Newly appointed Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has made quite the splash in free agency over the weekend, pulling off a number of significant signings that very few would have predicted.

Treliving added gritty former Boston Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a low-risk one year contract that carries an average annual value (AAV) of $5.5 million, former Dallas Stars forward Max Domi to a one year contract with an AAV of $3 million, and veteran National Hockey League enforcer Ryan Reaves to a 3 year deal with an AAV of $1.3 million.

That has left many wondering how in the world the Maple Leafs plan to make all of this fit under the cap, with the Leafs currently $8.8 million over the NHL's salary cap for the 2023-24 season. Of course using long-term injured reserve will give the Maple Leafs some cap relief, but many believe a trade will be necessary to make everything work.

On Monday, Treliving met with the media to discuss his busy weekend and it was there that he revealed his master plan, joking that cap specialist Brandon Pridham was in for a rough time.

“We’re going to lock Brandon Pridham in a room with no food or water until he makes it work," said Treliving on Monday.

It's almost certainly going to take more than that, but Treliving didn't share any additional details about just how the Leafs intend to make all this fit.
