The Toronto Maple Leafs lost a valuable member of their coaching staff this offseason, as assistant Spencer Carbery departed town to become the new head coach of the Washington Capitals; that position was vacated after the termination of Pater Laviolette.
And one of the first orders of business for new Leafs general manager Brad Treliving along with head coach Sheldon Keefe is to begin interviews with potential candidates to replace Carbery. According to NHL analyst Darren Dreger, interviews are underway.
But the main question from fans of the Leafs was with regard to the future of Keefe with the Leafs. There was some thought that Treliving could elect to go in a different direction behind the bench for his first year with Toronto, but those thoughts have officially been put to rest.
Earlier this month, NHL Insider Darren Dreger reported that contract extension talks between Treliving and Keefe are expected to take place later this summer.
Buckle up Leafs fans, because it looks like Keefe is staying put for a while.
