Most fans are just starting to get used to Brad Marchand in a Florida Panthers’ jersey that his name is already being thrown around seeing that he will become an unrestricted free agent in July. Several suitors are lining up, with Marchand even being previously linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but his comments on the pending free agency earlier this week caught many fans off guard.

According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, who provided an update on 12 coveted free agents on Friday including Marchand, reported how the veteran forward and former Boston Bruins captain is not even thinking about what might come next in his career.

“I’m not worried about next year at all,” Marchand said on April 1. “In this game, in this league, you need to take every day and enjoy it. You never know when you’re going to get an opportunity to be on a team like this again.”

Marchand seems to be focused on the now and how he would like to help the Panthers win back to back championships this postseason.

Then maybe, he will look at the options on the table. I mean I can’t see Marchand wanting to hang up the skates now and I am confident many teams will come calling to present him an offer.

Some say Marchand could return to the Bruins, to which Marchand had previously said:

“I don’t know, I guess is how I would respond. I don’t know what the future brings in terms of how it plays out in the summertime. I know it didn’t come together now. Can things change down the road? Potentially, but that’s to be seen.”

Last month, the Bruins weren’t able to work out an extension before the deadline, the team decided to make a move. It reported that Boston and Marchand were able to agree on the term of a possible extension, but there was a gap on average annual value (AAV).

Whenever Marchand starts thinking about next season, I am sure plenty of potential suitors will reach out if he hits free agency this summer. Will the Bruins be one of them?
