Did you really expect him to back down?

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand, one of the most notorious NHL pests both on and off the ice, drew some ire when he mocked a recent report stating the potential location of the 2025 NHL All-Star game. The three reported possibilities include Seattle, Detroit and Edmonton. However, Marchand had this to say immediately after the announcement:

"Lol can’t wait to see how many guys boycott that game," he commented under a post with the report.

Marchand sat down with ESPN this week to further discuss his comments, and he was quick to call out what he felt was a case of people simply being a bit too "sensitive on social media".

"Listen, I was just kind of playing around," he explained. "Everyone gets a little sensitive on social media. It's a huge problem in society, but we won't get into that. Seattle actually has beautiful views. Edmonton has phenomenal hunting, so I love Edmonton. And then Detroit is ... you know, suspect."

Well, Marchand seems to be building upon what seemed to be a popular jab at the Motor City, which has certainly had its share of problems in recent decades (so has every other major city). The good news is that there have been several notable improvements in Detroit over the years, and perhaps his new teammate in former Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi would be happy to fill him in - though certainly, not much can be done about the weather. The same goes for Edmonton.

"The All-Star Game is trending in the wrong direction," Marchand continued. "Guys want to be in spots that are enjoyable to be in. They want to be in nice cities or warm cities. It's a long season. The game itself is a small portion of that weekend. You want to be able to enjoy it a bit. When everyone else is going on trips and enjoying themselves during the break, you don't want to be stuck in Edmonton when it's minus-30 or in Detroit. You want to be able to enjoy it."

"It was a joke a little bit, but it's true. If you want the big superstars to go every year and want to be part of it, then you should put in places where they actually want to be and are going to enjoy it. But that's not for me to decide. I'll probably be out of the league by then anyway. So I'm not really too worried about it."

You really didn't think that Marchand was going to take back what he said, did you?
